Donna Karan is not dead. I repeat, Donna Karan is not dead.
I know this may come as a shock to everyone, considering the headlines yesterday as Donna Karan stepped down from the chief designer position at her eponymous brand.
“What will we do without Donna Karan?” the people cried, “It’s the end of an era!” “It’s the end of American fashion as we know it!”
Yes, it is crazy that Ms. Karan is stepping down as designer, and yes, we will miss her style. However, it’s hard for me to believe that the signature Donna Karan style and attitude will change much.
In fact, I believe that it will grow. LVMH (the controlling investment group) is most likely going to ask Ms. Karan’s opinions on growth and change, as she is staying on as a close advisor at Donna Karan International.
Ms. Karan is planning on devoting her newly found free time to philanthropy, specifically with the Urban Zen Foundation that she founded. She will also be spending time on the Urban Zen brand, which works with artisans to promote philanthropy and sustainability, and is a non-profit.
All the best to Ms. Karan in developing her newer ventures, and the company Donna Karan International for future growth and success.
